🛠️ What can you spray paint?
  • Canvas — flat ground for paint pouring, stencil art, street-art pieces. Popular: Matt Black, Matt White, Metallic Gold.
  • Stencils — paper, canvas, fabric, walls. Fine-mist nozzle gives clean edges.
  • Models & figurines — Warhammer, Gunpla, RC car shells. Grey Primer first, then colour, then Gloss Clear topcoat.
  • Furniture upcycle — frames, side tables, mirror frames, drawer pulls, planters.
  • Christmas & holiday craft — pinecones, baubles, garlands (Gold/Silver/Copper).
  • DIY blackboards — Blackboard Black turns any rigid surface into a chalk-friendly board.
  • NCEA art folio — backgrounds, mixed-media, Level 2/3 experimental work.
  • Wedding & party decor — mason jars, glass bottles, signs, table numbers in matching metallics.
📖 Buyer's guide — pick the right finish first

Going to overpaint with acrylics? Choose Matt or Satin. Gloss is too slippery for many acrylics to adhere to without re-priming.

Want a finished look straight off the can? Choose Gloss. The wet-look shine IS the finish — no varnish needed.

Painting a model or figurine? Grey Primer first, then 2 thin colour coats, then 1 thin Gloss Clear topcoat. Total: 4 cans for a small mini army.

Building a chalkboard? Blackboard Black on rigid wood / MDF / primed metal. After 24h cure, rub chalk over the whole surface then wipe — that pre-coat stops staining.

Worried about smoke indoors? All Max Brand cans are clean-burn, low-smoke. Open a window plus an extractor fan and you're fine for short sessions.

⚠️ Spray safely — the short version
  • Outdoors or well-ventilated only — open window plus extractor fan minimum.
  • P2-rated respirator for sessions over 10 minutes.
  • Drop sheets or large kraft paper down — overspray travels.
  • Hold the can 20–25cm from the surface.
  • Shake for the full 60 seconds before first use.
  • Multiple thin coats > one heavy coat.

❓ Frequently asked questions

How many cans for a 60×80cm canvas?
About 2 cans with full two-coat coverage. One can does a 30×40cm canvas comfortably.

Will spray paint stick to bare wood / plastic / metal?
Wood and most rigid plastics yes. Bare metal needs Grey Primer first. Soft flexible plastics (polypropylene, polyethylene) don't hold spray paint well.

Is spray paint safe for kids' craft?
Adult-supervised only. Best practice: adult sprays outdoors, lets cure 24h, then kids decorate the dried piece with brushes, stickers and pens.

Can I spray-paint glass?
Yes, but use Grey Primer first or the colour won't grip. Best for vases, candle holders, jam jars. Avoid food-contact surfaces.

What's the difference between matte and satin?
Matte is dead-flat — no shine at all. Satin has a faint sheen between matte and gloss. Satin hides minor imperfections better.

Bulk discounts on full cartons?
Yes — email info@handymandy.co.nz for inner (12 cans) or full carton (24 cans) quotes. Schools, studios, paint-and-sip venues and craft markets are the typical bulk buyers.

Stocked at 3 Morningside Drive, Auckland 1025. Free NZ shipping over $75. Questions on what to pick? Email info@handymandy.co.nz with what you're making and we'll point you to the right finish.
