Fabric paint in NZ for T-shirts, tote bags, canvas shoes and cushions. The Mont Marte Signature Fabric Paint Set has 12 x 20ml colours, including white, black and gold, and they mix together for more shades. Once it's dry and heat-set with an iron, the paint is permanent and machine washable.

How to use fabric paint

1. Wash and dry the fabric first, so there's no sizing left to block the paint.
2. Slip cardboard or baking paper inside the garment so paint doesn't bleed through to the back.
3. Paint with a brush or sponge. Keep layers thin, because thick 3D layers can crack.
4. Let it dry completely.
5. Put a cloth over the design and iron for 3 to 5 minutes at about 100°C to set it.

Frequently asked questions

Is fabric paint permanent after washing?

Yes, once it's fully dry and heat-set with an iron. Wash the item inside out on a cold cycle.

Can I use normal acrylic paint on fabric?

It will stick, but it dries stiff and is more likely to crack and fade in the wash. For anything you'll wear or wash, use fabric paint. We don't currently stock a textile medium for converting ordinary acrylic.

What can I paint with fabric paint?

Cotton T-shirts, calico tote bags, canvas shoes, cushion covers and aprons all work well. Smooth, tightly woven cotton gives the cleanest lines.
