- 1 × Mont Marte Signature stretched canvas (20 × 25 cm, triple-primed, ready to paint)
- 3 × brushes (small detail, medium round, large wash: covers every move)
- 1 × mini wooden tabletop easel (folds flat for storage)
- 1 × plastic mixing palette with thumb hole
- 1 × quick-start instruction sheet
Why this kit (over buying individual pieces)
If you bought every component separately at our normal prices you'd pay around $55. The kit comes in at $39.99 because Mont Marte packages it as a complete starter: same Signature-grade paint, brushes and canvas you'd buy individually. It's the right choice if you (a) are a complete beginner unsure what to buy, (b) are buying a gift, (c) need a paint & sip kit, or (d) are an NCEA art student setting up your folio kit.
Best for
- Beginner painters: everything you need in one box, no decisions to make
- Gift buyers: presentable box, no missing pieces, $39.99 price point
- NCEA art students: covers all of Level 1 and most of Level 2 folio painting
- Paint & sip nights: each kit serves one painter
- School holiday projects: keeps kids busy for a full afternoon
Step up from here
Once you've worked through this kit and want to upgrade, our most common next purchases are: a larger canvas (30 × 40 cm or A3), a detail brush set for finer work, and individual 75 ml tubes of your favourite colours from the Mont Marte acrylic paint range. For students working larger pieces, add a table easel or floor easel.
Frequently asked questions
Is this acrylic paint set good for beginners?
Yes, it's specifically built for beginners. The 18 colours cover the full colour wheel (so you can mix anything), the brushes cover small detail through large wash strokes, the canvas is triple-primed so paint sits cleanly, and the instructions get you painting in 5 minutes.
What canvas size is in the kit?
A 20 × 25 cm stretched canvas. Good for a first painting; experienced painters usually want to upgrade to a larger canvas which we sell separately.
How many people can one kit serve?
One painter. For a paint & sip night with 6 painters, buy 6 kits.
Is the paint in this kit student-grade or artist-grade?
Mont Marte Signature is the beginner-friendly student-grade line: non-toxic, water-based, lightfast for indoor art, and easy to clean up. For artist-grade work (galleries, professional sale) step up to the Premium acrylic range.
Is this a good NCEA art folio starter kit?
Yes, this covers all of NCEA Level 1 acrylic painting and most of Level 2. For Level 3 major work you'll likely want larger canvas, more brushes, and possibly individual artist-grade tubes.
Can you give this as a Christmas or birthday gift?
Yes, it's one of our top gift items. The packaging is clean enough to wrap as-is, the $39.99 price point fits most gift budgets, and the receiver can start painting the same day.
Do you ship this kit NZ-wide?
Yes, dispatched from Morningside, Auckland in 1–3 working days. Tracked courier 1–3 business days to main centres, +1–2 days rural. Free shipping over $75 NZD (just add a second item to qualify).
