This is the workhorse of the Mont Marte acrylic range. If you ask us "which acrylic do I get?", this is the answer 9 times out of 10. 32 colours, satin sheen, water clean-up, lightfast for 50–100 years. Pick your colour above. Ships from our Manukau warehouse, free NZ shipping over $75.
What you get
- 75ml tube of Mont Marte Premium Satin Acrylic Paint
- 32 colours — warm earths, cool blues, vibrant brights, classic metallics. Most customers grab 4–8 colours per order.
- Lightfast rating ≥6 (ASTM2) — 50–100 years true colour under indoor lighting
- Smooth, medium viscosity — brushes, palette knives, pouring all work
- Semi-matte satin sheen — catches gallery light without glare
Why this is the workhorse
- High pigment load — covers in one or two coats, no chalky feel that cheaper acrylics get
- The right sheen — not flat, not glossy. The finish you want on a finished piece
- Lightfast — won't fade indoors for decades
- Water-mixable — dilute for glazes, clean up with warm soapy water
- Compatible with every standard medium, gesso, varnish, and other Mont Marte ranges
Honest answer if you're new
Don't buy all 32 colours on day one. Most stay unopened. Start with 6–8: Titanium White, Mars Black, Cad Red Hue, Cad Yellow Hue, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber. You can mix nearly everything from those. Add more as you find the gaps in your own work.
How to use
- Prime your surface with gesso — paint sits cleaner on a tooth
- Squeeze a thumb-sized amount onto a palette. Pigment goes further than you'd think
- Brush, palette knife, or pouring technique — all work with this viscosity
- Clean brushes with warm soapy water while paint is still wet
- 30 minutes between thin coats, 2 hours for thicker
- Optional: clear acrylic varnish after 24 hours for extra protection
What pairs with this
Most painters also pick up Mont Marte stretched canvases (the triple-primed Signature range is the NZ standard), acrylic brushes, gesso primer, and a table easel for working at the right angle.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to dry?
Thin coats touch-dry in 20–30 minutes. Thicker layers (1–2mm) 1–3 hours. Fully cured at 24 hours. Auckland winter humidity can add 30–50%.
Is Premium Satin lightfast?
Yes — rating of 6 or above (ASTM2 equivalent). Under indoor lighting, the colours stay true for 50–100 years.
Can I mix Premium Satin with other Mont Marte ranges?
Yes — fully compatible with Signature, Dimension, Fluoro and Metallic acrylics, plus other water-based acrylic ranges. Mix freely.
What's the real difference between Premium Satin and Signature?
Premium Satin has higher pigment load, better lightfastness, and a satin sheen finish. Signature is the student-grade entry-level — great for learning and large pieces on a budget.
