Premium Air Hardening Modelling Clay Terracotta 500g
500g of terracotta air dry clay for school and hobby projects.
Mont Marte Premium Air Hardening Clay is a heavy-bodied clay that dries in the air, so there's no kiln or oven involved. It's pliable once kneaded and dries slowly, which gives you time to shape and fix your piece. Use it for small sculptures, pinch pots, trinket dishes, tiles and models.
To be clear about what it is: this is an air dry clay, not a clay for firing in a kiln. It dries to earthenware hardness, but it isn't waterproof and shouldn't be used for food or drink.
Drying and finishing
- Dries in around 24 hours, depending on thickness. Thick pieces take longer.
- Once dry, you can sand, drill, paint or varnish it.
- Standard pottery tools work with it, and so do stamps and pressed-in objects for texture.
Avoiding cracks
- Keep walls an even thickness, and hollow out anything chunky.
- Dry it slowly, away from heaters and direct sun. Loosely covering a piece with plastic for the first day helps.
- Fill small cracks with a paste of clay and water, then smooth over.
