Plaster Cloth Wrap

Plaster cloth wrap and plaster of Paris for masks, sculpture and school projects. Plaster cloth is gauze coated in plaster. Cut it into strips, dip each strip in warm water, smooth it over a frame of wire, card, a balloon or a model, and add layers until it's as strong as you need. Let it dry, then sand and paint.

Before painting, brush on a coat of gesso or watered-down PVA. Dry plaster soaks up paint, and the sealer stops the first coat going patchy.

For casting in moulds, use plaster of Paris instead: about 1 part water to 2 parts plaster, set in 10 to 15 minutes. Our guide to plaster of Paris Christmas decorations walks through a simple class project.

FAQ

The wrap is easy to use. Just use it, wet shape it and let it dry it. It covers any form and is drilled once the drive can be sanded. It can be used to create mask sculptures.

After the plaster bandages have been completely applied, it is necessary to let the bandages cure solid. This will usually take about 7 - 10 minutes.

Allow the Plaster cloth wrap to dry thoroughly, then remove from the body by working your fingers. Once the Plaster cloth wrap is fully dry, use our acrylic paint, watercolour paint or tempera paint to paint the cloth as you desire.
